Weekly Writing Prompts for SLHS Students

Let's practice those writing skills!  Here are your list of "prompts" for the semester...good luck!

Keep in mind that all weekly writings are due by Friday (or the last day of school week) BEFORE class time begins.  Points will be taken off for incorrect spellings, grammar errors, etc.  Please refer to the Six Traits of Writing posted in the room in regard to ideas, sentence fluency, organization, voice, word choice and conventions.  You must, must, must have an introductory paragraph, a concluding paragraph, and a story paragraph between.  Plan for one page, double-spaced, in Times 12 point font as a rough estimate.  Each of your paragraphs must have AT LEAST 3 sentences in them that "add" to the story you are telling.  I would suggest writing your essay in Word and then copying & pasting it to the blogger website.

This assignment counts as a homework assignment on the week it is assigned.  Have fun with it - and remember, keep it school appropriate or it is a ZERO!  If your writing prompt is not done by class time on the last day of the week it is assigned, it is a ZERO - there are no "lates" for the weekly writing assignments!  Mention anyone's name in this school in any type of derogatory way - ZERO!

Weeks are listed below, in order:

WEEK 1 - No writing due - just need to make sure you are able to post to the blogger site!

WEEK 2 - 2ND PERIOD CLASS:  ADVANCED COMPUTERS:  DUE 8/26/11. Imagine you had a hundred dollars, but you couldn't keep it. You had to give it away to a person or charity. Who would you give it to? What would you want them to do with it?

WEEK 3 - 3RD PERIOD CLASS:  JH AWARENESS:  DUE 9/2/11. Research iCloud and tell me how you would use this type of technology personally.

WEEK 4 - 4TH PERIOD CLASS:  ACCOUNTING 1:  DUE 9/9/11. What do you think is the most important acceptable use policy for a school to have?

WEEK 5 - 5TH PERIOD CLASS:  COMPUTER APPLICATIONS:  DUE 9/16/11. You have to choose between a Mac or a PC operating system...which is it & why?

WEEK 6 - 6TH PERIOD CLASS:  ACCOUNTING 2:  DUE 9/23/11. Just because I like you, I am going to buy you either an Android or an iPhone...What would you choose?  Do some research & tell me at least 3 pros and 3 cons to your choice.

WEEK 7 - 7TH PERIOD CLASS:  KEYBOARDING 9:  DUE 9/30/11. If you were teaching this class, what piece of equipment would you introduce to the classroom?  iPads?  iPods?  You name the piece you want to use daily!

  1. I just won $100! What should I do with all of this money?! Hmmm...I think I will give it to the TEEN Center in Roseland, because I know that I can't keep it. Why the TEEN Center in Roseland, you might ask? Because it is for teens - and those are my favorite people!

I hope the TEEN Center uses the money to buy pizza - lots and lots of pizza. I hope they have a huge pizza party before the first home volleyball or football game, and that they get the team so pumped up on pizza, that both games are a complete blow out - all because of the pizza!

If I were given ANOTHER $100, I would give that to the TEEN Center as well. I would help to stock their fridge with healthy food (such as fruits and vegetables) and drinks - but none of those energy drinks or pop! Know what I would love? To win $100 EVERY week, and I would give it to the TEEN Center every single week...I sure hope my dream comes true, don't you?

  2. Uh-oh - check out paragraph #2 - there are only 2 sentences in this paragraph - so I will NOT get all of my points for this writing! Check, check, and double-check your writing before you his the PUBLISH button!
